School Council Leaders

What is the School Council?

At Launde Primary School, our School Council is a valued group of children who represent the voice, ideas and opinions of all pupils across the school. Through our council, we aim to nurture young leadership skills, promote shared responsibility and strengthen pupil democracy. Most importantly, our councillors work together to support the wellbeing and inclusion of every child at Launde.

The School Council sets key principles at the start of each year and works hard to uphold them through the projects and initiatives they lead. It provides meaningful opportunities for children to communicate their views, make positive changes and influence decisions that shape their school experience.

Our council is made up of two elected members from every class in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Elections take place at the beginning of the school year following short presentations from pupils wishing to stand. Once elected, councillors follow the principles of a democratic society to discuss, vote and take action on important matters.

How is it run?

The School Council is led by the children and supported by a member of staff. Councillors take an active role in:

  • Organising fundraising events

  • Discussing issues linked to learning, behaviour and school life

  • Sharing ideas and suggestions from their classmates

  • Taking part in assemblies and wholeschool events

The School Council noticeboard in the school hall keeps the whole school community updated with current projects and news.

To help focus their work, the School Council is split into two key groups: the Promotions Team and the Equality Team.

The Promotions Team

Mission Statement

Our mission is to celebrate the heart of our school by showcasing the achievements, joy and creativity of our children and staff. We promote the brilliant learning, memorable experiences and strong community spirit that make our school exceptional. Through positive storytelling and vibrant communication, we highlight the fun we have, the values we share, and the excellent outcomes we achieve together.

The Equality Team

Mission Statement – Launde Primary School

At Launde Primary School, we believe that everyone deserves to feel valued, respected and included. The Equality Team has chosen the following principles to guide its work:

  • Treat each other how you want to be treated

  • We respect everyone

  • Everyone is special in their own way

  • We listen to everyone’s ideas

  • It doesn’t matter what religion or belief you have – we should all be treated equally

  • Alone we are one piece; together we are a jigsaw – let’s make sure we don’t snap

The Equality Team helps the whole school appreciate our similarities and differences and stands up against discrimination of any kind. Members support each other and step in when issues arise, seeking help from staff when needed.

The team organises and takes part in events that raise awareness of equality and challenge prejudice. Their work helps prevent incidents linked to disability, religion, heritage, homophobia or gender, and they proudly uphold the values of the Equality Act 2010.

They strive to make Launde a place where every person feels safe, celebrated and able to shine.

Welcoming New Pupils

We believe that fairness and inclusion begin on a child’s very first day. The Equality Team is currently developing a new welcome package for every new pupil to help them feel part of the Launde community straight away.

Each new child is assigned a buddy who sends them a welcome message, and the class prepares a short video to introduce themselves and their classroom. This helps new pupils settle in quickly and ensures they feel supported from the moment they arrive.
